EPA requires County of Hawaii to close large cesspools in Pahala and Naalehu

Thursday (June 22) the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced an agreement with the County of Hawaii to close seven large capacity cesspools (LCCs) that serve the Pahala and Naalehu communities. The County will replace the cesspools with wastewater treatment systems approved by the Hawaii Department of Health.

Police identify Kailua-Kona man killed in motorcycle crash in Ka‘u

A 25-year-old Kailua-Kona man was involved in a two-vehicle traffic casualty on Monday morning (May 29) on Highway 11 north of the 69 mile marker in Naalehu, Hawaii. He has been identified as Eric Figueroa.

The digital phone lines and network are not functioning at the Ka‘u Police Station in Naalehu. Analysts are troubleshooting the issue. Police are searching for a California woman reported missing, last seen in Naalehu

Police are asking for the Public’s assistant in locating a missing California woman named Margaret Hooper. She was last seen in the Naalehu area. Described as caucasian, 5-foot-8 in height, brown shoulder length wavy hair, about 140 pounds. Last seen wearing jeans and a colored blouse.

‘Active Shooter’ presentation in Naalehu on July 6, 2016

The Hawaiʻi Police Department will make an “active shooter” presentation in Nāʻālehu on Wednesday, July 6. The presentation will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nāʻālehu Community Center. It is designed to help individuals increase their survivability should they encounter an active shooter or other type of active violent incident.
