Wailea Village 12th annual mochi-tsuki celebration in making traditional rice cakes the “old-fashioned” way. Everyone took their turn at pounding the glutinous sticky rice for good luck.

Mochi is a rice cake delicacy served on New Year’s Day to symbolize the many blessings that the family will receive in the New Year. Visitors to the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa pounded and shaped steamed rice into smooth cakes Sunday (Dec 27).
