A 20-year-old Kona man has died from injuries he received in a domestic dispute on June 21. Ezra Barro of Kailua-Kona was pronounced dead at 4:44 a.m. Sunday (June 28) at Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu. The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

On August 13, Kona patrol officers responded to a care home on Haʻokuni Street to a report of an unresponsive 82-year-old resident. Fire/rescue personnel took the man to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:58 p.m. He was identified as Oscar Ramos.

Big Island police have located and charged Waylen Keone Carenio Jr. and Turner Kaimana Au, who were being sought in connection with a late-night assault in a car in front of a Kamehameha Avenue restaurant in Hilo on February 1. Carenio was also wanted on a bench warrant for a Grand Jury indictment.

On Friday night (January 13) Fire/Rescue personnel responded to a report of a 3-year-old girl who was found at home unconscious with labored breathing. They took her to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital, where doctors also discovered suspicious bruising on her body and notified police.

Hawaiʻi Police detectives have charged 21-year-old Waylen Carenio of Hilo with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 44-year-old man following an altercation Saturday morning fronting a sports bar in Hilo. The victim was identified as Roy Williams Jr. of Mountain View.

Hawai`i Prosecuting Attorney, Charlene Iboshi, announced today that Gene Craig Wells pled no contest to Manslaughter and Assault in the Third Degree and was sentenced to twenty years in prison. He was originally charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree.
