Fire/rescue units responded to a 12:46 p.m. alarm Friday (Nov 27) for three missing hikers in the Kahaualea Natural Area Reserve in Volcano. Three Kailua-Kona men, 50, 58 and 64 years-old, were lost in a heavily forested area.

The men started a midmorning hike when it was bright and clear then conditions changed two miles into their hike with cold misty rain and fog making for poor visibility. The hikers were disoriented in the rain forest of large Hapu ferns and old growth Ohia trees and called 911.
