The State Department of Land and Natural Resources and US Coast Guard report that a small boat had run aground yesterday in the area of the Kohanaiki or Pine Trees Beach. Due to hazardous conditions with debris and leaking fuel the immediate area of the beach has been closed

The Tombomb Wahine Classic began to advocate preservation of our coastlines, promote women’s surfing and encourage community involvement. We wanted to have a wahine surf contest and beach cleanup in Kona aimed at encouraging teamwork and camaraderie between women surfers. Registration deadline is Sept. 25, 2010.

Samuel Bower, 58, of Utah rented a 21-foot boat at HonokÅhau Harbor on Wednesday (December 2) and was last seen departing the harbor alone in the boat at 10:30 a.m. He said he was heading to Kealakekua Bay to meet with friends, and he was due to return by 5:30 p.m.
