Big Island police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the robbery of two tourists at a coffee processing company in Kealakekua on June 11.

Matthew A. Alani, 18, of Captain Cook was arrested in Kailua-Kona at 9:20 a.m. Thursday (July 8). After conferring with prosecutors, detectives released him at 12:50 p.m. pending further investigation.

Big Island police have arrested a juvenile in connection with the robbery of two tourists at a coffee processing company in Kealakekua on June 11.

The 17-year-old Hōnaunau boy was arrested in Honoka'a on Tuesday morning (June 29) on suspicion of first-degree robbery and second-degree attempted robbery for robbing a 63-year-old Tennessee man and his 58-year-old wife.

Big Island Police are searching for a 36-year-old man who was reported as missing.

Seth Umiamaka Jr. was last heard from by his family on February 15, 2008. Umiamaka may be living on the island of Kauai. His last known address on the island of Hawai'i was in Kealakekua.

Umiamaka is described as local, 6-foot-1 and 166 pounds.

Police traffic investigators have charged 21-year-old Joseph Edgar Jr. of Kealakekua with negligent homicide in the first degree, two counts of negligent injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and reckless driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash Tuesday (February 23) on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway at the 88-mile marker in North Kona.

Firefighters are mopping up the Kealakekua fire as hazards and risks have been greatly reduced, Chief Darryl Oliveira reported today. Demobilization of Hawai‘i County firefighting crews on the scene is under way.

Secure fire breaks have been established and only a few smoldering hot spots remain. The hot spots are more than a quarter-mile inside the fire breaks and do not pose a threat at this time.

The fire conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain stable and limited to smoldering fires well within the fire breaks and perimeter.

Crews are maintaining twenty-four hour operations and monitoring the situation to insure all potential fire hazards are addressed and any changes are communicated to keep the public informed. Operations continue to be supported by the Hawaii Fire Department and Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate.

Very little change has been reported over the past 24 hours on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area. Fire crews were on scene throughout last night and continued with mop up operations today. All burning and smoldering hot spots continue to remain well within the fire area. Some of these hot spots are estimated to be approximately one-quarter mile from the perimeter and in areas difficult to access.
