The Hawai'i Police Department will hold a community meeting on Wednesday (July 21) from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Kealakehe Police Station's large conference room.

The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public to meet the Police Department's command staff and to discuss concerns with the police chief and commanders who oversee police operations in the Kona District.

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management will be conducting Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events at its Hilo and Kailua-Kona (Kealakehe) Recycling & Solid Waste Transfer Stations in June.

The Hilo HHW Collection Event will be held on Saturday, June 5, and the Kailua-Kona HHW Collection Event will be held on Saturday, June 12.  Both events will provide for residential drop-off of select materials from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. only.

Police traffic investigators have charged 21-year-old Joseph Edgar Jr. of Kealakekua with negligent homicide in the first degree, two counts of negligent injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and reckless driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash Tuesday (February 23) on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway at the 88-mile marker in North Kona.

EKO will be conducting water system repairs at the County’s Kona Green Waste Mulching Facility located at the Kealakehe Recycling & Solid Waste Transfer Station.

In order to protect the safety of the public and complete the repairs in a timely manner, the facility will be closed on Friday, February 26, 2010.
