Fire/rescue crews responded to a 7 p.m. alarm Sunday (Aug 27) to Kapaau Road in North Kohala for a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found a single family home engulfed in flames and collapsing. Several propane large propane tanks exploded during the fire with others venting fuel.

Hawaiʻi Island police have located a 34-year-old North Kohala man who was wanted for assault and violating probation. Owen K. Ching of Kapaʻau was arrested Wednesday (May 4) in Kapaʻau and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree assault and probation violation. His bail was set at $50,000.

Two people have been charged with theft and burglary in connection with a break-in last week in Kapaʻau. The burglary at a home on Lehuʻula Circle was reported October 5. Numerous items valued at $3,000 were stolen, including electronics, purses and wallets.
