A minor earthquake occurred at 0:04:06 AM (HST) on Thursday, March 22, 2012 . The magnitude 3.5 event occurred 43 km (27 miles) West of Kailua-Kona. The hypocentral depth is 10 km ( 6 miles).

Due to a scheduled repair now underway, the PÄpa‘ikou Well is down. Department of Water Supply customers in the affected area are now under a Water Conservation status. The Department of Water Supply has activated the Ka‘ie‘ie Well as the back up source until the repairs are complete.

Kona patrol officers responded to a 1:45 a.m. report that a man had entered a home in the Kalaoa subdivision in Kona armed with a metal pipe-like object and threatened to harm three residents—a 20-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man.
