PTA to open several training areas for bow hunting this weekend (April 2-3, 2016)

Army officials are opening several training areas for bow hunting, here, April 2-3. Humu’ula Unit (training areas 1-4), Menehune Unit (training areas 5-6), and Ahi Unit (training areas 9, 12-16, and 18 east) will be open for bow hunting of pigs, goats and sheep only, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PTA to open Keamuku for turkey hunting this weekend (March 12-13)

Army officials are opening the Keamuku Maneuver Area (KMA) for turkey hunting, here, March 12-13. KMA will be open for spring bearded turkey hunting only, from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hunters can use bow or shotgun; however shotgun slugs are not permitted.

Beginning this weekend, new check-in stations will be used for all hunting activity here, and are intended to make the check-in/check-out process more convenient and accessible to hunters traveling from Hilo, Kona and Waimea.

Hunting will be closed, here, for approximately three weeks due to military training. Army officials anticipate resuming hunting Nov. 7-8, pending training area availability. Hunting opportunities at PTA differ from other public hunting areas because availability depends on military training schedules.
