Strong 6.8M earthquake near Honshu, Japan Tuesday (March 13)

No destructive widespread tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data. However – earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter. The Japan Meteorological Agency has cancelled the tsunami advisory for Japan.

Although no reported widespread tsunami threat exists from the 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Japan Wednesday (June 22) a tsunami near the epicenter could occur. The tsunami Advisory issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency for Iwate Prefecture in Japan has been cancelled as of 7:45 a.m. JST June 23, 2011.
