Police charge Honomu man with murder in Sunday fatal stabbing

Big Island police have charged the suspect in the fatal stabbing Sunday morning (July 22) in Hilo. At 5:45 p.m. Monday (July 23), detectives charged 49-year-old Daniel Schuster of Honomū with second-degree murder, promoting a dangerous drug, and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $54,000.

USGS on the magnitude 4.9 earthquake deep beneath the Honomu area

The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded a magnitude-4.9 earthquake located beneath the Island of HawaiÊ»i on Saturday March 24, 2011 at approximately 10:47 a.m. HST. The earthquake was located less than 1 mile west (1 km) of Honomu at a depth of 27 miles (43.5 km).
