Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:08 p.m. alarm Tuesday (Aug 8) to the Honolii Beach area for a body reported floating offshore.

Crews in Rescue Boat 2 met with a boater of a 13' Boston Whaler who reported the body about 0.7 miles offshore of Honolii Beach. The body was found floating about 15 feet away from the Boston Whaler in the open ocean. Firefighters loaded the body onboard the rescue boat and transported it to the Wailoa Boat Ramp in Hilo where it was turned over to police.

Police are investigating a shooting near Honolii Beach Park in Hilo early Sunday morning (Jan 31), a 31-year-old shooting victim was found at Hilo Medical Center and flown to Oahu for further treatment.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:23 p.m. alarm Wednesday (April 22) to the open ocean about 400 yards off Honolii Beach Park for a pair sailors in distress.

Rescuers found two females, who are visitors to the Big Island, sitting on the hull of an overturned 14-foot sailboat.

Using a Billy Pugh net Chopper One was able to airlift the visitors to shore for later transport to Hilo Medical Center to be checked-out.

Big Island police are warning the public about recent car break-ins and thefts that have been concentrated in the area of Honoliʻi Beach Park. During the month of October, police investigated twelve vehicle break-ins at Honoliʻi, and another three break-ins from the surrounding area. The incidents are occurring throughout the day, with a higher concentration during the early morning and evening hours.

The Surfers Healing Foundation - Hawai’i Island Chapter will be hosting a 2 - day event for children with Autism and other disabilities. Fire/rescue responded to a 9:39 a.m. alarm Wednesday (Sept 21) to the Kapohokine Adventures zipline attraction in the Paukaa mauka area for an accident involving two men. The men were contract workers testing the zipline when it collapsed.

In conjunction with the Annual Big Island Pro Am Surfing Trials at Honoli'i, there will be a temporary one-way traffic pattern on Kahoa Street on Saturday (July 9).

Traffic will be allowed to flow in the Hāmākua, or northerly, direction on Kahoa Street between Nahala Street and Kahoa Place. The one-way traffic pattern will be in effect between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
