From Wednesday through Thursday (May 30-31), the existing roadway at the Hualalai Road and Mamalahoa Highway intersection will be resurfaced.  A one-lane road closure will be in effect during the 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. road work schedule.  

Road resurfacing will continue Monday through Tuesday, (June 4-5) on Hualalai Road over 3,430 feet from Mamalahoa Highway to Lako Street.  Motorists going to or from Holualoa are asked to use Palani Road for North Kona access or Haawaina Street for Keauhou and South Kona access.

Holualoa man charged after threatening people with guns at baby birthday party

A Hōluloa man has been charged with a dozen offenses after reportedly brandishing weapons at a family party Saturday night (April 21). Kona patrol officers responded to the Imin Center in Hōlualoa at 10:50 p.m. Saturday to a report of a disturbance involving a large group of people.

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 8:04 p.m. alarm Saturday (Feb 11) to Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 180) South of the eight mile marker in Holualoa for a vehicle crash which brought down a utility pole and lines.

The Southbound vehicle struck a support pole which caused a utility pole to sheer off at its base bringing down lines with it. The utility pole fell on the mauka side of the road while the support pole was across the highway.

Big Island police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a robbery January 12 at Keauhou Store in Hōlualoa. The suspect, 22-year-old James Kekai Hao of Kailua-Kona, was also arrested for a robbery January 5 at the Kaloko Business Center V in Kailua-Kona.

Police arrest one suspect in Keauhou Store robbery

Thanks to tips from the public, Big Island police have arrested one suspect in connection with a robbery last week in Hōlualoa. On Friday (January 13), detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section located and recovered a white 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara associated with the January 12 Keauhou Store robbery.

Shortly before 1 p.m. a man described as a local male with a dark complexion entered the Keauhou Store in Holualoa and forcibly removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. A 34-year-old female cashier suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

Holualoa Village celebrates the beginning of  the holiday season this Saturday evening with its 15th annual Music & Light Festival. The free public event begins with the lighting of the Village Christmas tree on the lawn of the Library at dusk and runs until 8:30 p.m.

The County of Hawai‘i will extend the mauka lane along Māmalahoa Hwy five- feet for a pedestrian path in Hōlualoa town.
 
The pedestrian path will begin at Hōlualoa Elementary School, for ¼ of a mile ending at Imin Center. 
 
Road construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, and Wednesday, (October 25-26), and may continue through Thursday.  One lane will remain closed from 9:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.  Please plan for delays.

The deadline for Kona coffee farmers to sign-up for the 13th annual Coffee & Art Stroll on November 5th in Holualoa Village is Wednesday, October 19, 2011. 

Over two dozen West Hawaii farms will be serving free samples of their finest Kona brews from the front lanais of the historic buildings that line Mamalahoa Highway between the Elementary School and Imin Center. All of the art galleries and shops along the half mile of roadway are hosting at least one local coffee farm and featuring their own unique art and island crafts. Only local coffee farms are invited to participate, no craft or other vendors.
