Fire/rescue crews answered a 3:49 alarm Friday (Oct 13) to Hilo Bay for a swimmer in distress.

Fire dispatch received a call reporting a woman in her late 20s seen leaving the Wailoa River mouth heading towards a green channel marker about a mile off shore. The witness lost sight of the woman and became concerned about her welfare and called 9-1-1.

This is a Civil Defense sewage spill information update for Tuesday April 4 at 10 a.m. As a result of yesterday’s sewage spill that entered Wailuku River, Hilo Bay and all beach parks within the break wall area are closed.

On Friday, November 5, 2012, at approximately 11:20 a.m., police officers responded to Moku Ola (Coconut Island) for a reported spear fisherman in distress. Upon arrival, along with Fire Department Rescue personnel, a 77 year-old man had already been removed from the ocean and was unresponsive.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 10:51 a.m. alarm Thursday (March 24) for a boat in distress 400 yards off-shore Moku Ola (Coconut Island) in Hilo Bay.

A 12-foot aluminum boat had capsized and its two passengers were clinging to its hull in windy, choppy ocean conditions.
