Snow and 105 mph winds trigger winter and wind advisories for Big Island summits

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory and high wind warning for Big Island summits until 6 p.m. this evening (March 9). Snow and ice accumulations along with freezing fog will deposit up to one inch of new snow on Big Island summits over 12,500 feet in elevation.

High wind warning for Big Island summits

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind warning for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea until 6 a.m. Monday (March 9). Winds are coming from the west at 45-70 mph with localized gusts over 90 mph. The strongest winds are expected to be Sunday day and night.

High wind warning for Big Island summits with gusts over 80 mph

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind warning until 6 p.m. Saturday for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Winds are coming from the west at 35-60 mph with localized gusts over 80 mph on summit areas obve 11,000 feet in elevation.
