A 30-year-old man died Monday (March 12) after a tree fell on him while he was helping to clear a vacant lot in Puna.

The victim has been identified as Methodius Suda of Hilo.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday, Puna patrol officers responded to 15th Ave off Makuʻu Street in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision and learned that Suda had been helping cut down trees on a relative’s lot.

Big Island police are investigating a burglary in Puna that took place in November. 

At about 2:25 p.m. on November 25, Puna patrol officers responded to a reported burglary on 26th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. They determined that between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., a 72-year-old woman was confronted by five men while outside her house.

Big Island police are investigating a reported home invasion that occurred last month in Puna.

Police received a call at about 10:32 p.m. on November 25 from  a 29-year-old Keaʻau man, who reported that while he was in his home in Hawaiian Paradise Park, two unknown men armed with sharpened weapons forced their way inside.

Upon arrival, police discovered the 69-year-old woman with severe head injuries and determined that a man forced his way into her home before assaulting her.

Hawaiʻi Police Department vice officers arrested and charged two people after serving two unrelated search warrants this week. Both search warrants were the result of aerial observation and information and tips from the public. 
 
Officers served the first search warrant Monday (August 1) at a home on 13th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision of Puna and the second Tuesday (August 2) at a home in Honokaʻa.

Big Island police are investigating an incident that left a 65-year-old Hilo man in the hospital with severe head injuries and a 68-year-old Puna man in police custody.

On Monday (June 13) around 10:29 a.m., police received a report of someone yelling for help at an apartment complex in the lower block of Hualālai Street in Hilo. Responding officers discovered the severely injured victim and the alleged suspect still within the victim's apartment.
