Firefighters responded to a 5 p.m. alarm Friday (March 25) for a brushfire at the Railroad Avenue right-of-way between Hawaiian Paradise Park and Hawaiian Beaches subdivisions. Upon arrival fire crews found a five acres grass and brush fire being fanned by trade winds in an area difficult to access by fire vehicles.

Big Island police have located a 20-year-old man who is being featured this month on “Hawai’i Island’s Most Wanted.” Xanthin Berdon of Hawaiian Beaches escaped from police custody while he was being detained for robbery last month. The episode of “Hawai’i Island’s Most Wanted” that featured his case began airing last Friday (August 13).
