A high pressure system far to the Northeast has created strong East Northeast trade winds. The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday (May 28).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for South, North and East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Monday (Dec 26).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the current High Surf Advisory for the South, North and East facing areas of the Big Island until 7 a.m. Saturday (Dec 24). Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range with surf remaining high through Friday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for East Facing shores until 6 p.m. this evening (Nov 28). Winds are forecast to create surf six to nine feet in height. Beachgoers should use caution due to dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.

East winds will be 20-30 mph with frequent gusts of up to 50 mph. These strong and gusty winds will be widespread but will be especially strong in valleys, over ridges and mountain tops where they will accelerate downslope over the Leeward sides of the Big Island.
