The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for Hawaii Island until 6:30 p.m. tonight (Aug 22).

At 3:24 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain South of Hilo near Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View and Volcano. Rain was falling at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View, Keaau, Volcano, Glenwood, Orchidlands Estates, Hawaiian Acres, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Ainaloa, Kurtistown and Fern Acres.

Sunday (July 24) 5 p.m. UPDATE: Flash Flood Watch is cancelled for Hawaii County

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has cancelled the Flash Flood Watch for Hawaii County. At 6 a.m. Hawaii County Police report Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) at Kawa Flats is fully open to traffic.

At 9:23 p.m. weather radar showed a large band of heavy rain moving onshore into the Ka‘u district of Hawaii Island from east of Volcano to South Point. The heavy rain will continue moving slowly to the northwest into upslope areas with rainfall rates of 2 to   3 inches per hour likely. The ground is already saturated in this area from earlier heavy rains. Excessive runoff is likely and Highway 11 at Kawa Flats may be vulnerable to closure due to flooding.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island until 8:45 p.m. Tuesday (Dec 22).

At 5:52 p.m. weather radar indicated a large area of moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms across the Puna district, portions of south Hilo and the Ka‘u district extending from near Hilo to Mountain View to Volcano to near Wood Valley. Rainfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour are occurring with the heaviest downpours.

At 10:55 p.m. weather radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms that will cause localized flooding in parts of the advisory area. Areas of heavy rain were located just north of Hilo and over parts of the Ka‘u district north of South Point. Radar was showing rain falling at one-half to one inch per hour.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the flood advisory for Hawaii Island until 7:45 p.m. Tuesday (Oct 6). At 4:50 p.m. weather radar showed persistent rain that will cause minor flooding from Volcano to South Point. The weather radar showed rain falling at up to one inch per hour.

At 5:10 p.m. weather radar indicated moderate to locally heavy showers over the slopes and coast of the Kona district. Heaviest showers are near Keahole Point and upslope from communities from Honaunau to Holualoa to Kailua-Kona.

Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, the South Kona District from Honaunau to Kailua-Kona to Keahole Point.

At 3:02 p.m. weatherradar indicated heavy rain that will cause minor flooding in West Hawaii. Heavy rain was falling at up to two inches per hour over the slopes of Hualalai.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island until 4:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept 17).

At 1:36 p.m. weather radar indicated heavy showers developing over several different areas of Hawaii island with the heaviest showers once again affecting the area between Honaunau and Keahole Point including Kailua-Kona town. Additional heavy showers will affect the leeward Kohala area from Mahukona to Kawaihae and areas upslope of these communities. Heavy rainfall is also occurring over the Ka‘u slopes upslope from communities from Wood   Valley to Naalehu.

At 3:05 p.m. weather radar indicated heavy rain that will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Heavy rain was located over Kailua-Kona. Radar was showing rain falling at up to two inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory area include, but are not limited to, Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Waimea, Honaunau, Honaunau-Napoopoo, Puuanahulu and Kalaoa.
