Hawaiʻi Island police have identified a female visitor from California who apparently drowned Tuesday (September 6) at 4 p.m. in waters at Pohoiki Beach.

The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Nancy Peacock of Martinez, California.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a possible drowning in South Kohala.

On Monday (August 29) officers responded to a 3:40 p.m. report of an unresponsive woman in a pool at a resort on Mauna Kea Beach Drive. When police and Fire Department personnel arrived, resort staff members were attempting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Fire Department personnel took over attempts to revive the victim but were unsuccessful.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday (August 23) on the body of a man found floating off the Hāmākua Coast on August 16.

The cause of death was determined to be drowning.

The man was identified Thursday evening (August 18) as 28-year-old Adam Hartzog, who had no permanent address but frequented the Hilo area.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:45 p.m. alarm Wednesday (Aug 10) to the Wailuku River in Kaumana for a drowning.

Crews arrived to an area in the Upper Wailuku River known to locals as 'Narnia' where they found three people on the river bank. The people said a family member had jumped into the water and had difficulty swimming. They jumped in to rescue him be were not able to hold onto him.

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified remains found last month in the Wailuku River as those of a woman who was last seen swimming near that area last year.

The remains were found in a tide pool of the Wailuku River on February 14.

Dental comparison determined that the remains were those of 62-year-old Jolee Reiswig of Kailua-Kona. Reiswig was last seen in Hilo in the early evening hours on September 14, 2015. She had been swimming with a companion in a location known as Boiling Pots.

A Nevada man died after encountering problems in waters at Hapuna Beach Park on Thursday (November 12).

In response to a 2:53 p.m. call, South Kohala officers responded to a possible drowning. When they arrived, they learned that 80-year-old Glen Giles of Las Vegas had been about 20 yards out in the water when he called for help.

In response to a 12:59 p.m. report, South Kohala officers  learned that a concerned citizen had pulled the unknown man to shore and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation with another bystander. Fire Department personnel arrived but were unable to revive the man.

The medical examiner determined that the unidentified man died from asphyxia due to drowning. Detectives are still attempting to confirm his identity so they can notify his family.

A Chinese national apparently drowned Wednesday (July 22) at a Waikoloa resort.

South Kohala police officers responded to a 12:36 p.m. report of a possible drowning at a resort on the 69-400 block of Waikoloa Beach Drive and found a man unconscious on the shore with medics attempting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. The medics were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 p.m.

The lifeless body of the swimmer who went missing Monday morning (June 1) in waters off OTEC Beach was located Monday afternoon.

Fire Department personnel located him approximately 25 yards off short submerged in the ocean. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead.
