Soil contamination found at 18 Hawaii Island schools of 23 tested

After completing a soil study at 23 schools on the east side of Hawai‘i Island, the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE), with the support of the Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH), is implementing tailored environmental hazard management plans (EHMPs) at 18 schools where results from the study indicated contamination present in the soil.

Big Island Dairy discharges wastewater in Kaohaoha Gulch near ‘Ō‘ōkala Town

The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) is warning the public to stay out of Kaohaoha Gulch below Mamalahoa Highway in ‘Ō‘ōkala, Hawai‘i. Storm water within Kaohaoha Gulch was contaminated with animal waste due to discharge this morning from a lagoon at the Big Island Dairy facility.

Department of Health recommendations for catchment water use during volcanic activity

Hepatitis A case verified on Hawaii Island at Waikoloa restaurant

The Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed a new case of hepatitis A infection in a food service employee on Hawaii Island. The employee has a history of exposure on Oahu and worked at the fast food and catering restaurant, Sushi Shiono Waikoloa.
