The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises motorists that as of Friday, Sept. 4, the truck escape ramp and drainage improvements of the Daniel K. Inouye Truck Escape Ramp project have been completed. The 1,600-foot-long escape ramp is fully functional and open to the public.

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified a body found off the Saddle Road on June 16. He was identified as 32-year-old Joshua M. Kahele, who had no permanent address. An autopsy report received this month confirmed that he died from asphyxia due to hanging.

A 31-year-old Keaʻau man died Friday morning (November 29) in a single utility tractor crash. He was identified as Troy K. Pattioay. About 11:33 a.m., Pattioay was operating a 1987 Kenworth Utility tractor pulling an unloaded lowboy trailer and traveling west on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, (New Saddle Road), just prior to the 51-mile marker.
