U.S. Senators Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) and Thomas Carper (D-Delaware) introduced the Furthering International Nuclear Safety Act of 2011 yesterday, a bill that would enhance worldwide cooperation on nuclear safety. Representative Jeff Fortenberry (R-Nebraska) intends to introduce a companion bill later this month in the House of Representatives.

The United States Senate approved a two-week continuing resolution today by a vote of 91-9. The bill will keep the federal government open through at least March 18. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) voted to support the measure and issued the following statement today:
