Hawaii receives $8M for Sportsmen & Conservation Funds

Tuesday (March 20), the U.S. Department of the Interior announced $8,304,999 in funding to Hawaii to support critical state conservation and outdoor recreation projects. Hawaii Energy, the ratepayer-funded energy conservation and efficiency program, wants to help residents achieve energy savings in their homes by incentivizing them to turn in old refrigerators or freezers, and to use compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).

Starting today, Hawaii Energy will pick up and recycle old working refrigerators or freezers for free and pay cash for eliminating those old units.

Hawai‘i farmers and ranchers who have enrolled in a joint state and federal program to establish conservation easements that promote restoration of degraded agricultural lands and sustainable land management practices, are invited to submit requests for reimbursements to the Hawai‘i Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) in the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR).
