Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:48 p.m. alarm Monday (Aug 17) to the Lalakea Trail near Waipo Valley. Rescue crews from Honokaa arrived to find 14 people in two separate groups from an ATV tour stranded on the opposite side of a flash flood which blocked their exit from the trail system.

American Honda Recalls Foreman ATVs Due to Crash Hazard (Recall Alert) Consumers should stop using this product unless otherwise instructed. The ATV’s steering shaft can break unexpectedly and cause the rider to lose steering control and crash. This poses a risk of injury or death to riders.

A weld on the ATV’s front right and left upper suspension arms can separate, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, posing a crash hazard. Honda is aware of 10 incidents of suspension arm weld failures, including one in which a rider suffered a sprained wrist.

Some KingQuad ATV’s plastic fuel tanks were improperly manufactured and can develop a fuel leak, posing a fire hazard. American Suzuki has received 19 reports of fuel leaking from the recalled ATVs. No injuries have been reported.

A 48-year-old Ninole man was found dead Sunday morning (January 30) from injuries he sustained in an all-terrain vehicle crash on a private road off Piha-Kahuku Road in Ninole in the District of North Hilo. The victim was identified as Bill A. Maclean of a Ninole address.

The flame arrester screen can become detached from its mounting ring, preventing the throttle valve from returning to the idle position when the throttle lever is released and causing the rider to lose control of the ATV. This poses a serious hazard of injury or death.
