The Puna patrol officer was honored for persistently and diligently tracking a man for months who was wanted on a warrant for violating parole.

Acting Captain Glenn Uehana, who nominated Ishikawa for the honor, said that by using contacts in the community, Ishikawa consistently gained solid leads about the suspect's whereabouts but that the suspect would flee before officers were close enough to apprehend him.

Aina was honored for saving a suspect who was in respiratory distress in a cell at the Hilo police cellblock on February 5. Aina rushed to the cell and administered the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging an object that was blocking the man's airway.

The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai'i recognized Officer Darryl Castillo on Thursday (December 3) as "Officer of the Month" for October.

Castillo was recognized for his quick action in catching three people who had broken into a home while the victims slept.

Castillo was on routine patrol at 1 a.m. on October 11 when he spotted a pillow and sheet lying on a road in front of a house and a then saw a woman picking them up.
