The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for South shores of the Hawaiian Islands until 6 p.m. Thursday (Sept 1). Warning level surf has subsided becoming eight to 12 feet in height. Levels are forecast to drop to six to eight feet Thursday afternoon.

Beachgoers should use caution as high surf can produce rip currents and large shore breaks.

The surf can cause problems for boats entering and exiting harbors as largers sets may break across channel entrances and cause surges inside harbors. Boaters should use caution when entering or leaving ports and when mooring or launching vessels inside a harbor facing South.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the Big Island through 6 p.m. Rough surf of 6-8 feet is expected for today. A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing large breaking waves, rip currents and localized beach erosion.
