The Mauna Kea Access Road to the summit is closed above the Visitor Information Station due to snow and ice on the summit roads, thick fog and deteriorating weather conditions. The road will probably be closed tomorrow. We will continue to update this message as conditions change. The National Weather Service has upgraded their advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for Big Island Summits until 6 a.m. Saturday (Dec 11). Heavy snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Big Island summits through Friday morning (April 16). A red flag fire warning has also been issued due to dry conditions and strong winds possibly through Saturday.
