‘Izakaya-style’ eatery to offer sushi, sake, Japanese pub cuisine

Kohala Coast, Hawai‘i – The Shops at Mauna Lani today announced the addition of a new dining establishment.

“Monstera,” a hip, casual “izakaya-style” restaurant featuring Japanese pub food and sushi, is slated to open in late January. The offering from owners Norio Yamamoto and Wes Monty will boast a menu built upon fresh local ingredients and blend traditional Japanese cuisine with Hawaiian hospitality. Yamamoto is a successful sushi chef with more than two decades of experience with discriminating employers such as Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental and The Fairmont Orchid.

The restaurant is the second new eatery scheduled to open at the center this month. The Shops at Mauna Lani previously announced the addition of “Juice 101,” a casual food, juice and smoothie bar. Both restaurants open on the heels of “The Great 4-D Movie Ride,” Hawaii’s first and only 4-D theater, which began operation in late November.

The Shops at Mauna Lani is the premier destination on the Kohala Coast for live island music, world-class shopping and fine dining.
