Hawaii County Fire Department crews spent a fourth day searching for a missing swimmer in the Wailuku River in Hilo Friday (Sept 18).
The 62-year-old woman swept away while swimming in the Boiling Pots area of the Wailuku River on Monday (Sept 14). The woman fell off an inflatable tube, was unable to make it to the riverbank and was swept away by the current.
Ground teams and Chopper One searched the river from the river banks and air. A team searched in the waters where the woman went missing but dangerous river conditions prevented them from searching anything further than river eddies.
The search was halted due to darkness and will continue at first light Saturday (Sept 19).
