A 61-year-old Kailua-Kona man was involved in a single-vehicle traffic casualty on Thursday afternoon, (October 26), in Keāhole, North Kona at the intersection of the Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway and the Keāhole Airport Road.

He has been identified as James Sakai.

Mauna Loa is not erupting. Small-magnitude earthquakes occurred beneath the summit caldera and upper Southwest Rift Zone, mostly at depths less than 3 miles, with some deeper events at depths of 3–8 miles.

Joshua Barros, 27-years-old, part Hawaiian, tan complexion, 6-feet, 200 pounds with brown eyes short brown hair. He is believed to frequent the Hilo and Kailua-Kona areas. He is wanted on several warrants and in connection with ongoing investigations.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a shooting incident and structure fire at a Puna residence Tuesday evening, (October 24).

At 7:03 p.m.,  police and fire department personnel responded to a report of a house fire on Rainbow Drive in the Ainaloa Subdivision. The resident, a 35-year-old man, told police that when he returned home, an unidentified intruder inside the house shot at him before the suspect fled on foot. Shortly thereafter, the victim heard an explosion on the outside of the house that set the structure on fire.

Firefighters responded to a 7:02 p.m. alarm Tuesday (Oct 24) to 16-2181 Rainbow Drive in Puna for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a single-story, single family home with half of the structure engulfed in flames. Residents of the home had escaped the fire before crews arrived.

Hawai‘i Electric Light reports that about 4,600 customers in various parts of Hawai‘i Island experienced power interruptions caused by heavy rain, lightning and breezy weather conditions that are impacting the state of Hawai‘i.
 
As of early Tuesday afternoon, about 250 customers are without power in Kailua-Kona, lower Puna, Volcano, Ka‘u, and along the Hāmākua Coast.

During the week of October 16, 2017, through October 22, 2017, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 28 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 935 DUI arrests compared with 884 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.8 percent.
