The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Warning until 6 p.m. Tuesday (Nov 8) for the north and east shores of Hawaii Island.

Surf is forecast to be in the 20-30 foot ranger along north facing shores of Hawaii Island. Surf will rise rapidly by early this evening.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.

Boaters should expect recreational surfers and bodyboarders using harbor channels to access surfing areas.

A small craft advisory is also in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday (Nov 8) for the Alenuihaha channel, Hawaii Island windward, leeward and southeast waters.
