Police DUI stats for the week of August 1-7, 2016

During the week of August 1, 2016, through August 7, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 637 DUI arrests compared with 616 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 858 major accidents so far this year compared with 925 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been 13 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities, compared with 11 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 14 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 18.2 percent for fatal crashes and an increase of 7.1 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
