Buckets of money stolen from county facility

Hawaiʻi Island police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying anyone involved in a break-in at a county facility on the 600 block of Lanikaula Street.

The break-in occurred between late evening Friday (April 22) and early afternoon Saturday (April 23). Three white five-gallon buckets full of coins and paper money, along with paper bus pass tickets, were removed from the facility.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident or about persons in possession of these items to call Officer Jacob Obermiller at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID.
