Police arrest two with drugs and stolen SUV

MEDIA RELEASE

Two men were arrested at a state park Friday (April 15) after exiting a stolen vehicle.

The sports-utility vehicle was removed from a home on Malolo Street in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision in Puna on April 4.

Police spotted it at 5:20 p.m. Friday at Wailoa State Park in Hilo, where they arrested the driver, 32-year-old Paul Alisa, who has no permanent address, and his passenger, 31-year-old Jessie Campbell of Hilo. Campbell was in possession of crystal methamphetamine, unauthorized prescription drugs and paraphernalia associated with the use of illegal drugs.

Both men were taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation. Investigation determined that Alisa was also a suspect in a forgery case. In that case, a customer, later identified as Alisa, used a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for an order at a fast food restaurant on Makaʻala Street in Hilo on Thursday (April 14).

At 11:50 a.m. Sunday (April 17), detectives charged Alisa with second-degree theft for the stolen SUV and first-degree forgery for the counterfeit bill. His bail was set at $7,000.

Campbell was charged with promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a harmful drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $21,000.

Both men are scheduled to make their initial court appearance on Monday (April 18).
