Pahoa man sustains critical injuries after crash in Waiakea Tuesday morning (April 12)

A 29-year-old Pāhoa man was critically injured in a two-vehicle traffic collision on Tuesday (April 12) at the intersection of Kīlauea Avenue and Kawailani Street.

Responding to a 4:51 a.m. call, South Hilo patrol officers determined that a 2004 Peterbuilt rubbish truck was traveling south on KÄ«lauea Avenue when it collided with a 2001 Lincoln four-door sedan traveling west on Kawailani Street.

The 29-year-old man, who was the driver of the Lincoln, was taken to Hilo Medical Center and later flown to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition.

Police are asking any witnesses to this crash to call Officer Keith Nacis at 961-8119 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
