Police DUI stats for the week of April 4-10, 2016

During the week of April 4, 2016, through April 10, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested twelve motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 301 DUI arrests compared with 260 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 395 major accidents so far this year compared with 410 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.7 percent.

So far this year, there have been six fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in seven fatalities, compared with five fatal crashes (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in seven fatalities, during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 20 percent for fatal crashes.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
