Hookena Beach Park closed until Monday afternoon (March 14) for mosquito treatment

MEDIA RELEASE FROM HAWAII COUNTY CIVIL DEFENSE

7:45 a.m. (3/13/16)Hawaii County Civil Defense Dengue Fever audio update

This is a Dengue Fever and Beach Park Closure information update for Sunday March 13th at 8 a.m.

The response to the ongoing Dengue Fever outbreak continues. Thursday’s one new confirmed case helps to remind everyone that as previously stated, this outbreak remains active and is not anticipated to be considered over anytime in the near future. Therefore we are asking for everyone’s help to continue to Fight the Bite.

In addition and as a preventative action, the Department of Parks and Recreation will be conducting routine mosquito spraying and treatments of the Hookena Beach Park facilities. This is a preventative measure only as there have been no confirmed cases associated with the beach park since November. The planned spraying and treatment will require the temporary closure of the park and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The first spray activity is scheduled for Monday March 14th and the beach park will be closed from Sunday (March 13) through mid afternoon Monday (March 14). Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank everyone for your patience and understanding.
