MEDIA RELEASE
HILO, February 24, 2016 – The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works and its contractor Loeffler Construction announces that effective Monday, February 29, 2016, beginning at 8 a.m. through Thursday, March 24, 2016, Manono Street (between KekÅ«anÄo’a Street and East LanikÄula Street) and Leilani Street (between Mililani Street and HÄ«nano Street) will be closed (24 hour closure) for grading and pavement work. Only local residents will be allowed access.
The estimated time frame for the phases of road work is as follows (weather and construction conditions permitting):
- 2/29/16 – 3/9/16 Manono Street (from LanikÄula Street to Leilani Street)
- 3/10/16 – 3/18/16 Manono Street (from Leilani Street to KekÅ«anÄo’a Street) Possibility of one lane opening for two way traffic during this phase
- 3/21/16 – 3/22/16 Leilani Street (from Manono Street to Hīnano Street)
- 3/23/16 – 3/24/16 Leilani Street (from Mililani Street to Manono Street)
This closure is necessary to complete the road work in a timely manner and for the safety of the traveling public. Special off-duty police officers will be posted in the area to facilitate traffic movement. Motorists will be able to use Mililani Street and HÄ«nano Street as alternate routes.
The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.
