South Korean man under assault, threatening and abuse charges due to stabbing

A South Korean man has been charged with three offenses in connection with a domestic dispute and a stabbing Wednesday (January 27) at a resort along the South Kohala coast.

At 5:30 p.m. Thursday (January 28), after conferring with prosecutors, detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section charged 59-year-old Kyoung Sun Yoo of Yuseong Gu, South Korea, with first-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family/household member. His bail was set at $8,000.

Yoo is being held at the Kona police cellblock. Unless he posts bail, he will make his initial court appearance Friday (January 29).

The stabbing victim, a 52-year-old South Korean man, remains at North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital in stable condition after being treated for puncture wounds to his chest and thigh.

The abuse victim, a 52-year-old South Korean woman, was treated for a head injury at the hospital Wednesday and then released.
