Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports the surface of the lava lake rose with the deflation of Kilauea summit and was around 30 m (100 feet) below the floor of Halemaumau Crater Monday morning (Jan 4). At 3:18 a.m., a slice of the north wall of the Overlook crater collapsed into the lava lake and triggered a small explosive event.
