Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a Big Island man with 27 offenses in connection with a double sexual assault Tuesday (December 22) in the Piʻihonua area.

At 10:15 p.m. Thursday (December 24), 36-year-old Oran Charles Kita, who has no permanent address, was charged with 15 counts of first-degree sexual assault, seven counts of third-degree sexual assault, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of kidnapping and one count of promoting a detrimental drug. His bail was set at $891,000. He is expected to appear in court on those offenses Monday (December 28).

Meanwhile, he is being held at Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center after going to court earlier Thursday for his first appearance on a Grand Jury indictment for first-degree promotion of marijuana and other charges related to a 2011 search warrant at his former residence in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Police are still investigating another first-degree sexual assault that was reported in 2011.
