Police arrest Puna man for recent double sexual assault case and 2011 sex assault

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a Puna man in connection with a double sexual assault Tuesday (December 22) in the Piʻihonua area.

At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (December 23), police initially arrested 36-year-old Oran Charles Kita of Keaʻau on a warrant for a 2011 case, charging him with first-degree promotion of marijuana. His bail on that charge was set at $23,000.

During his arrest in Hilo, officers observed marijuana in his truck. Kita was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation. While in custody, he was also arrested on suspicion of promoting a detrimental drug and on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault for a 2011 case. Kita had been featured on “Hawaiʻi Island’s Most Wanted” for the 2011 sexual assault case.

At 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Juvenile Aid Section detectives arrested Kita on suspicion of 42 additional offenses for the double sexual assault Tuesday of a female adult and a female minor. The offenses he faces possible charges for are 27 counts of first-degree sexual assault, 11 counts of third-degree sexual assault, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of kidnapping.

He remains at the cellblock while detectives continue the investigation.
