Captain Cook man is charged with stealing a car and other items

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a Captain Cook man with five offenses after a car and other items were stolen from a home in Kailua-Kona.

On Sunday (September 27) a 2004 Audi sedan was stolen from a locked garage at a home on the 73-4300 block of Halemau Street. Other items were also taken.

On Monday (September 28), a Kona Patrol officer observed the Audi at a home on the 85-4500 block of Māmālahoa Highway in Captain Cook. Police recovered the car and arrested 21-year-old Kolton Bannister. He was taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday (September 30), detectives charged Bannister with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, burglary, unauthorized possession of personal confidential information and two counts of theft. His bail was set at $6,750.

He remains at the cellblock until his initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday (October 1).
