During the week of September 14, 2015, through September 20, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 763 DUI arrests compared with 840 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,082 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,147 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.7 percent.
So far this year, there were 15 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with nine during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.
To date, nine fatalities related to drugs (6), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
