Wailuku River swimmer still missing after second day of searching

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Rescue crews spent a second day Tuesday (Sept 15) at Wailuku River Boiling Pots State Park in search of a missing swimmer.

The 62-year-old woman was last seen at 5:30 p.m. Monday (Sept 14) in the upper pond area of the Boiling Pots floating on an inflatable tube. The woman fell off and was unable to make it to the river bank.

Rescue crews used ground teams and Chopper One to search the river and its banks in search of the woman Tuesday. Due to raging river conditions switwater rescuers were only able to search in the river eddies near the woman’s last known spot seen. The search continued until nightfall without results.

Crews will begin a third day of searching at daybreak on Wednesday (Sept 16).
