Police arrest two men in connection with a Hilo robbery

Two men are in police custody for a robbery early Thursday (September 10) at a public park in Hilo.

In response to a 1:20 a.m. call Thursday, a 20-year-old Hilo man reported that he was accosted at Ainaola Park by two men who brandished what appeared to be a handgun. They took his wallet and glasses and then left in separate vehicles.

Police located the suspects on Kahaopea Street. At 3:30 a.m., 22-year-old Joshua R.K. Domen of Hilo and 22-year-old Bradley Burcena of Hilo were arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At noon Friday (September 11), Domen was charged with first-degree robbery and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $5,500. Burcena was charged with first-degree robbery. His bail was set at $5,000. Both remain at the cellblock pending their initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (September 14).
