An 18-year-old Hilo man has been charged with six offenses after being stopped in a brand-new truck that had been reported stolen.

Sometime between Saturday (September 5) and Monday (September 7), someone broke into a house on Hale Nani Street in Hilo and stole electronics, personal information and keys to a 2015 four-door Nissan Frontier pickup truck that still displayed paper license plates. The truck was removed from the premises.

On Monday evening (September 7), South Hilo patrol officers spotted the truck on Kumukoa Street and arrested the driver, Delvionte Cooper. He was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while the Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

Wednesday evening, Cooper was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree theft, second-degree theft, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, unauthorized possession of confidential information and driving without a license. His bail was set at $16,500.

He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance Thursday (September 10).
