Hawaiʻi Island police have initiated a murder investigation in connection with the discovery of a woman’s body on her Puna property.

On Tuesday evening (August 25), Puna District officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Kapoho Kai Drive. Investigation led to the discovery of a woman’s body, outside her home, with suspicious injuries.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have fallen 2.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.18/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has fallen 7.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.60/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Average gas prices fall 2.4 cents per gallon the past week in Hawaii

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have fallen 2.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.18/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has fallen 7.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.60/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

During the week of August 17, 2015, through August 23, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 674 DUI arrests compared with 769 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.4 percent.

Police locate Waimea man wanted on warrants

Hawaiʻi Island police have located 38-year-old Jacob Kawaa Freebairn, who was wanted in Waimea on bench warrants. Freebairn was found in Kona on Friday (December 11) and charged with violating terms of probation and six counts of contempt of court.

Firefighters responded to a 6:26 p.m. alarm Monday evening to 15-2685 Kumu Street in the Hawaiian Beach subdivision of Puna.

Crews arrived to find a single story, unoccupied home with smoke coming from the rafters and flames in the walls. Firefighters had to force their way through the locked and fenced property line and open a boarded up doorway.

Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 11) in Ka‘u is closed between the 58 and 59 mile markers due to flooding across the roadway making it impassible. There is no projection as to when the roadway will open due to heavy rains.
